Events that occurred years before put them on paths that caused them to meet that day.  If any one of them hadn’t occurred, they would not have both found themselves there.  As it was, Liza was sitting one row behind him, two seats down.  He’d penetrated her perpetual daydream the minute he walked into class.  Now she was staring at him, trying to figure out why.  Aside from the fact that he was tall, he wasn’t her type, but she couldn’t stop looking.
